An enjoyable and successful Taster Day

On Saturday 13th November 2021, we held our Dragon Boat taster day at Liverpoool’s Salthouse dock. We had over 50 new paddlers joining us to experience dragon boat racing in the heart of Liverpool. Thank you to all club members who organised the event and were involved in introducing new paddlers to our fantastic sport. Take a look at our gallery. Fancy joining us? Want to get involved? Wilderness Paddle on the Canal

Amathus members and guests took part in a tour of the canal from Burscough. Our guide for the day was Chris who introduced us to the local history, plants and wildlife along the canal. The trip took around 3 and a half hours to complete which included a stop for a picnic, tea and cakes in the boat! We even found some Burscough ‘pearls’ a symbol of true dragons. We are looking forward to exploring the canal further in the future. Thank you to every one who took part.

Return to Dragon Boat Training

History of Dragon Boat Racing

Our dragons were ready for their return to the water for our dragon boat training. First our boats were decorated with colourful lights. Next we had briefing to follow all COVID secure procedures during our training session. After that two crews of 9 paddlers loaded the boats and began their return to the water, the first in over 6 months! Throughout the session we took part in a range of paddle drills and exercises. Paddling improved throughout the session, producing two great boats. We even had a tour of The Albert Dock. Both boats enjoyed being our on the water. Our Amathus family look forward to our next dragon boat session. For more information contact us or take a look at our training times. Please note due to COVID restrictions we are operating a reduced training time table. Contact us for up to date training information and advice.
