Coronation Celebrations

Amathus members celebrated the King’s Coronation in style with a Kings v Queens boat and lots of races between both crews followed by tea and cake. Fun was had by all.

Spooky Paddle 2022

Amathus and Pool of Life took on the ghosts and ghouls of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal. A series of events and spooky finds including spiders, skeletons, ghostly dragon boats, bodies and rats….combined with many true tales from the canal….Just a snippet of what the crew faced. Many sleepless nights followed. A scary night was had by all.

The Queens Baton Bearer 2022

Our very own Dave Bangs represented Amathus as a Baton bearer for The Commonwealth Games, Birmingham after being nominated by club members to take part. The route involved a segment through Prescot in Knowsley, where huge crowds greeted the baton bearers on their segment. The event finished with live music and entertainment as part of Knowsley’s Capital of Culture Celebrations, outside the Shakespeare North Playhouse.

First Race of 2022

On Sunday 10th April, Amathus hosted the first race of the season, consisting of a 6km pursuit race and a 1km paired slalom challenge. We welcomed visiting local crews including Preston Dragons, Soaring Dragons and Manvers Dragon Boat Club to battle it out on the water. A fun day was had by all with Amathus winning 1st in the 6km and joint 1st with Soaring on the Slalom challenge. Amathus would like to thank all crews who travelled to take part, officials, organisers and Amathus Club Members for all of their efforts in ensuring that this event could take place.

Poverty Paddle for Ukraine Sunday 3rd April 2022

A small group of club paddlers spent the day paddling on the canal from Scarisbrick Marina to Heatons Bridge helping to raise money for Ukraine. We stopped to have lunch on the canal with a pot of blind scouse and a traditional war time recipe of apple cake. A great time was had by all, paddling over 17 miles. Fancy getting involved?
